Updated: May 31st, to add a book that was finished last minute!
I can not believe how quickly the month has gone. You would think that with staying home all of the time that time is creeping by but it seems like it is still flying by so fast!
May is always a busy month for us when things are normal, in addition to Memorial Day & Mother's Day we are have 3 birthdays and this year we had a graduate! It doesn't feel real, not only can I not believe that my 1st has finished high school and is now a full blown adult, but it is hard to get closure on this since we weren't able to have a ceremony or a big party!
Most of the month of May was devoted to the Kinsey Milhone series by Sue Grafton, it will actually be the focus of June probably as well because I have really been on a roll and I am pretty far down the alphabet!
May's Finished Books: (synopsis' from Amazon)
Kinsey Millhone never sees it coming. She is mired in the case of a doctor who disappeared, his angry ex-wife, and the beautiful current one—a case that is full of unfinished business, unfinished homes, and people drifting in and out of their own lives. Then Kinsey gets a shock. A man she finds attractive is hiding a fatal secret—and now a whole lot of beauty, money, and lies are proving to be a fatal distraction from what Kinsey should have seen all along: a killer standing right before her eyes...
She was a "Jane Doe," an unidentified white female whose decomposed body was discovered near a quarry off California's Highway 1. The case fell to the Santa Teresa County Sheriff's Department, but the detectives had little to go on. The woman was young, her hands were bound with a length of wire, there were multiple stab wounds, and her throat had been slashed. After months of investigation, the murder remained unsolved...
That was eighteen years ago. Now the two men who found the body are nearing the end of their careers in law enforcement—and they want one last shot at the case. Old and ill, they need someone to help with their legwork and they turn to Kinsey Millhone.
Kinsey is intrigued by the cold case and agrees to take the job. But revisiting the past can be a dangerous business, and what begins with the pursuit of Jane Doe's real identity ends in a high-risk hunt for her killer.
Reba Lafferty was a daughter of privilege, the only child of an adoring father. Nord Lafferty was already in his fifties when Reba was born, and he could deny her nothing. Over the years, he quietly settled her many scrapes with the law, but wasn't there for her when she was convicted of embezzlement and sent to the California Institution for Women. Now, at thirty-two, she's about to be paroled, having served twenty-two months of a four-year sentence. Her father wants to be sure Reba stays straight, stays home and away from the drugs, the booze, and the gamblers...
It seems a straightforward assignment for Kinsey: babysit Reba until she settles in, make sure she follows all the niceties of her parole. Maybe a week’s work. Nothing untoward—the woman seems remorseful and friendly. And the money is good.
But life is never that simple, and Reba is out of prison less than twenty-four hours when one of her old crowd comes circling round...
Cases don't get much colder than that of Violet Sullivan, who disappeared from her rural California town in 1953, leaving behind an abusive husband and a seven-year-old named Daisy. But PI Kinsey Millhone has promised the now adult Daisy she'll try her best to locate Violet, dead or alive. All signs point to a runaway wife—the clothes that disappeared; the secret stash of money Violet bragged about; the brazen flirtations she indulged in with local men, including some married ones.
Kinsey tries to pick up a trail by speaking to those who remember Violet—and perhaps were more involved in her life than they let on. But the trail could lead her somewhere very dangerous. Because the case may have gone cold, but some people's feelings about Violet Sullivan still run as hot as ever...
Samiah Brooks never thought she would be "that" girl. But a live tweet of a horrific date just revealed the painful truth: she's been catfished by a three-timing jerk of a boyfriend. Suddenly Samiah-along with his two other "girlfriends," London and Taylor-have gone viral online. Now the three new besties are making a pact to spend the next six months investing in themselves. No men and no dating.
For once Samiah is putting herself first, and that includes finally developing the app she's always dreamed of creating. Which is the exact moment she meets the deliciously sexy Daniel Collins at work. What are the chances? But is Daniel really boyfriend material or is he maybe just a little too good to be true?
Kinsey Millhone's elderly neighbor, Gus Vronsky, may have been the original inspiration for the term “Grumpy Gus.” A miser and a hoarder, Gus is so crotchety that after he takes a bad fall, his only living relative is anxious to find someone to take care of him and get back home as soon as she can.
To help, Kinsey runs a check on the applicant, Solana Rojas. Social security, driver's license, nursing certification: It all checks out. And it sounds like she did a good job for her former employers. So Kinsey gives her the thumbs-up, figuring Gus will be the ideal assignment for this diligent, experienced caregiver.
And the real Solana Rojas was indeed an excellent caregiver. But the woman who has stolen her identity is not, and for her, Gus will be the ideal victim...
It isn’t paranoia if it’s really happening . . .
Anna Fox lives alone—a recluse in her New York City home, unable to venture outside. She spends her day drinking wine (maybe too much), watching old movies, recalling happier times . . . and spying on her neighbors.
Then the Russells move into the house across the way: a father, a mother, their teenage son. The perfect family. But when Anna, gazing out her window one night, sees something she shouldn’t, her world begins to crumble—and its shocking secrets are laid bare.
What is real? What is imagined? Who is in danger? Who is in control? In this diabolically gripping thriller, no one—and nothing—is what it seems.
My Favorite Book This Month!

Although I am very much enjoying the Kinsey Milhone series that I feel like I started a lifetime ago, I all of a sudden got very determined to see the series through until the end. I did give the most recent finish T is for Trespassing a 4-star rating instead of the typical 3-stars I have been giving the rest of the recent books because the story just stuck out a little more. BUTTTTTTTTT.....my favorite book this month was The Boyfriend Project by Farrah Rochon. I stepped out of my thriller/mystery zone that I have been in for a while and decided that a good ol' rom-com would be a nice distraction from the world these days. So as I told you a couple of weeks ago when I was picking my first book for Book of the Month, I decided to go with this book!
The book was a nice distraction, it was a very easy read and had the right amount of comedy to go along with the romance. As far as the romance was concerned it was cute and had a perfect amount of steamy moments to make the book keep the pages turning! The book is a pre-order from Amazon until it's the release date on June 9th, so if you are reading this before the release date make sure to get it now! Check out my full review here.
If you are a Book of the Month subscriber you should definitely have it as an add-on in your June box! If you aren't a Book of the Month subscriber, they have a great referral program and I can invite you to join here for $5.00 off your first month!
Currently Reading:
I don't know about you but I tend to have 4-5 books on my currently-reading list at any given time. Right now is no different for me, here are the books that I am currently reading going into the month of June!
This book is actually a book I am re-reading. For the THIRD time. I just absolutely love this series and I am not sure why but I wanted to read it all over again. So even though I don't go through it very quickly because it does take a backseat to the books I am reading that I haven't read it it is a go-to for me!
I am a sucker for a good self-development book so I picked up the first book by Rachel Hollis Girl, Wash Your Face last year. I really ended up not liking Rachel Hollis, which I know is a not so popular opinion. So I am really not sure why I wanted to give this book a chance. I guess it is because I had picked up her three fiction books and kind of enjoyed them so I thought I could give her another try. I am struggling still, but I am bound and determined to get through this book this month!
I am not too far into this book but I love this hilarious woman so I thought reading her book would be fun. Well, fun is a weird word for it since it is not meant to be funny. This gives you a glimpse into the life that Tiffany lead before she became the big-as-life social media star we all love!
I am almost done! I am bound and determined this will be the month that I finish this series. Is anyone else bothered by the fact that she did not write a book for Z????
